Westchester County Legislator David Tubiolo announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and may have exposed other lawmakers to the virus, forcing the postponement of the evening address on Thursday, Oct. 8, which would have been Westchester County Executive George Latimer's third since taking office.
As a precaution, Latimer said that he was postponing the State of the County, has quarantined as a precaution and is awaiting results of a COVID-19 test.
The address, which is usually held in April and had to be pushed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, was scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday in the Westchester County Legislators chambers. It was to be closed to the public and streamed online.
The County Department of Health is advising anyone who attended the Virtual Italian Heritage Flag Raising Event at the County Office Building last week to contact their doctor or the Health Department to discuss testing.
“Unlike what we have seen out of officials in Washington, D.C., here in Westchester we believe in science, we believe in medicine and we believe in trusting their years of experience-based guidance,” Latimer said. “While it is disappointing, it is the safe and prudent move to postpone this speech.”
